What's in a Name?

How Clover Leaf Got its Name.

The Clover part of our name goes back many years with owner Cortney Heykoop,  all the way to her Irish roots!  Born Cortney O’Leary,  the clover has always been tied to the family.  Her Great Grandfather and Grandfather both owned and operated a butcher shop franchise of Clover Farm Stores.  O’Learys Clover Farm Store in Washington PA was the first family business.

Later Cortney Heykoop founded O’Learys Clover Farm: A Daniel S. O’Leary Charity for Children With Diabetes that supported camp programs in Pennsylvania from 2008-2009. So when Cortney decided to establish her own financial services firm, the clover was a natural fit.

Special Needs Mom

Cortney and Justin Heykoop adopted their oldest daughter from Russia when she was just 2 years old.  She was quickly diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the journey of being a Special Needs Family began.  Of course no one wants to join the club of parents who fight daily for their children. The Heykoop’s have found a tremendously supportive and giving community  and Cortney strives to give back and help other families through her financial services practice.

“When we have these kiddos, we are not given a handbook!  We gather what information we can where and when we can, usually while on the playground or in a doctor’s office waiting room.  I feel we are constantly fighting and putting out fires, so focused on getting through the day or the days challenge we do not even think about the future.  Financial Planning is different for families with Special Needs Children.  We often have to ask and answer very difficult questions and face confusing legal issues starting with a Special Needs Trust.  Having been in the same shoes as my clients,  I feel I have a strong understanding of where they are and what they are facing.  I start with the principle of taking care of yourself first.  When we board a plane we are reminded in the case of an emergency to put our oxygen masks on first.  The same applies for our finances.   I feel we spend so much time fighting for and taking care of our kids we often forget to do this!”
